“On The Front Line” – Film

On the Front Line – The Rangers of Gorongosa
From the team that created National Geographic’s “Africa’s Lost Eden” and “Gorongosa Park: Rebirth of Paradise” comes “On the Front Line – The Rangers of Gorongosa” – Protecting Mozambique’s beautiful Conservation Areas requires courage, skill, and passion. In Gorongosa National Park, a group of men and women endure difficult training to try to achieve their dream of becoming Rangers.
Life as a Park Ranger
In Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique, a brave team of Rangers is “on the frontline”, protecting this beautiful wilderness from a range of threats like bush meat hunting and illegal logging.
But Gorongosa is a million acres – the Rangers urgently need reinforcements. 700 candidates attempt to pass the intense mental and physical tests required to become a Gorongosa Ranger. And, for the first time in the Park’s history, women are allowed to apply. But they won’t be shown any preferential treatment – they have to endure the grueling 60-day trial just like the men, in order to be fit and prepared for the work ahead.
In this beautiful, engaging 80-minute Feature-Documentary film, we follow the journey of these candidates and tell the inspirational stories of the Rangers who are chosen to proudly wear the uniform…
The film is an inspirational story, with a powerful message about protecting Mozambique’s unique and beautiful National Parks and Reserves. It will be an important awareness-raising tool, both for the general public and, critically, the nation’s highest-level decision makers. We hope the film achieves nothing less than convincing the Government of Mozambique to make conservation a greater national priority.
During a World Premiere in Maputo, on July 31th, 2018 VIP from Government, Business, and the Diplomatic Community gathered to honor the work of Mozambique’s Rangers. In addition to the World Ranger day celebration, National TV (TVM and STV) broadcast the film at prime time and continue with multiple broadcasts during 2018 and 2019.
Currently, the film is screening at festivals throughout the world and gathering critical acclaim in addition to the awards listed below. We are currently working with an international partner to have the film aired worldwide soon.
