The Kingdom of the Netherlands’ commitment to development cooperation in Mozambique spans addressing critical needs to driving sustainable change. Projects are funded by program administrators from the Netherland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, with a focus on water and food security, gender equality, and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Every two years, representatives from these various program areas visit Mozambique to assess the progress of Netherland’s Multi-Annual Country Strategy and learn from one another’s work. This year, the team embarked on a three-day journey across Mozambique, observing projects firsthand and engaging with local communities.
The team began their journey in the community of Gorongosa, exploring horticulture and climate resilience initiatives that empower local farmers and enhance food security. In Bebedo and Vinho, they met with Gorongosa Girls Clubs, where young girls learn about their rights and the dangers of child marriage. These clubs are vital spaces for fostering gender equality and creating opportunities for a brighter future.
On the second day, the team traveled to Companhia de Zembe, a seed producer in Manica Province. Here, they observed the role of quality seeds in strengthening agricultural productivity and contributing to the region’s food security.
The final day of their visit focused on initiatives in Beira and along the Beira Corridor. Visits included a clean water project, and agricultural technical and vocational education and training programs carried out by Young Africa, The delegation also toured several impactful projects involving sexual reproductive health and rights. These efforts collectively demonstrate a multifaceted approach to addressing Mozambique’s development challenges.
According to delegation officials, the Netherlands remains committed to supporting Mozambique’s growth through targeted initiatives that prioritize sustainability, resilience, and empowerment, and their visit reinforced the importance of collaboration, learning, and adapting strategies to create lasting, positive impacts.
