Arquimedes André
Science Technician
My name is Arquimedes André, and I was born and grew up in Beira. I always loved watching documentaries about the biodiversity of Gorongosa National Park. In 2018 I finished my degree in Biology at the Pedagogical University-Beira. In 2017 I carried out research with the shrimp of different species at the national fishery research institute-Beira, while studying the white shrimp of the species Penaeus indicus in the artisanal beach trawl fishery.
From 2016 to 2018 I worked as a teacher of biology and chemistry in Beira.
In 2018 I joined the team from PRAPESCA, Lda and then joined AGRIPEC, Lda, where I worked as a biologist and the project manager for the breeding and fattening of crocodiles and I had the opportunity to conduct research that promoted the quality and profitability of breeding of crocodiles through appropriate production processes.
I hope one day to be able to study the taxonomy and diversity of this group in conservation areas, in order to help manage the conflict between man and wildlife in order to guarantee the conservation of wildlife, taking into account the guarantee of the balance of social, economic and ecological needs.
I always dreamed of working in a conservation area like this. I visited Gorongosa National Park in 2020 and I joined the team in February of 2021, fulfilling part of my dream. I work as a Science Technician in the Scientific Department with external and internal researchers in the Laboratory of E.O. Wilson and I help with their field work. I look at this job with the most motivation possible and always with the goal of achieving perfection in every mission.
