Top photo – the residents of Canda celebrated World Environment Day with song, dance, poetry and nourishment from the Model Mothers.

The Canda Administrative Post hosted a special event In honor of World Environment Day, by showcasing the region’s homegrown treasures, such as Serra da Gorongosa coffee and honey.

Members of the EPC 25 de Setembro de Canda Environmental Club sang songs and recited poetry, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship, biodiversity, and the role animals play in maintaining a balanced ecosystem.

Model Mothers stole the show with their culinary skills, serenading and dancing as they highlighted the nutritional value of porridge in combating malnutrition within local communities.

Representing Gorongosa National Park, Hercília Chipanga addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for strategies, collective action and raising awareness of environmental conservation, particularly in light of escalating weather changes.

Gorongosa District Administrator Pedro Mussengue praised the district’s progress in reducing uncontrolled fires and appealed to the community to actively participate in environmental preservation.

The event’s theme, “Avoid plastic pollution, be part of the solutions,” resonated as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the planet.
