A total of 111 bicycles were given to Elementary Polivalent Health Agents in the districts of Gorongosa (65), Cheringoma (10), Nhamatanda (23) and Muanza (13).

The project, initiated by Gorongosa National Park’s health sector, is a collaborative effort between district governments and is focused on ensuring comprehensive access to health care in the Sustainable Development Zones.

Gorongosa District Administrator Pedro Mussengue, praised the Park’s support and appealed to the health care agents to redouble their efforts to raise awareness and combat the water-borne diseases that surfaced during the rainy season.

The bicycles will make it easier for the health care agents to cover as much ground as possible while carrying out their duties in the communities where they are located, and ensure that local families benefit from first-line health care.

The health agents play an important role by serving as a link between the formal health sector and local communities and by promoting disease prevention in disadvantaged areas.
