Projects like the Committees of Development for Women and Natural Resource Management, are providing support to women from Catemo in Mazamba through beekeeping, vegetable production, cashew plant nurseries, handicrafts and other actvities.

All of the projects developed by the Park’s Human Development team are designed to support livelihoods compatible with biodiversity conservation, encourage local women to become active members of society, and strengthen their involvement in local development processes.

A delegation from the Canadian Embassy visited several communities near Gorongosa National Park in late August to learn more about the Park’s Human Development initiatives.

The delegation also had an opportunity to learn more about other programs taking place in Mazamba including the Peace Club and Distance Learning projects which provide education and literacy opportunities for adults and youth, with emphasis on ex-combatants and their families.

The Canadian Embassy is one of many different partners who provide the support necessary to make these projects possible and during this trip, visited the Regulated of Catemo, located in Mazamba and the district of Cheringoma.
