Chris Belo
Muzimu Guide

My name is Chris Belo. I am the Head guide of Muzimu lodge in Gorongosa National Park. I like to provide life-changing experiences to all guests that visit the park as they become part of the Gorongosa restoration program. Through the experience I have attained over the years working in 3 previous African countries, namely Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Tanzania, as Safari guide, Field guide trainer, Walking guide trainer, and Camp manager before I arrive in Gorongosa. I would like to leave a footprint to the local communities by creating ambassadors of conservation through mentoring upcoming students in tourism and conservation.
I was born in 1978 in a small town called Norton in Zimbabwe, being the 5th born in a family of 7 with 3 boys and 4 girls. My primary education was at a farm school that was close to a recreational park, which ignited my passion for wildlife. On completion of high school in 1996, I could not go to university due to financial difficulties.
Since I had started learning and working with Polo horses during school holidays and weekend when I was in Form 2, I got a job at a Stud where we bred and train Thoroughbred horses. During the 3 years I worked at the stud, I learned a lot about horse breaking, Veterinary assistant, and Horse Farrier assistant. My experience and expertise in the Horses got me my first job as a Horseback safari guide in the year 2000, even though I was not qualified as a guide at that time. I had to do on-job training to attain my Zimbabwe guide license in the year 2002.
In the year 2005, I moved to South Africa where I worked in Eastern Cape at Lalibela game reserve, Shamwari Game Reserve until 2008. I did a year of over landing safari throughout South Africa for a year before settling at Singita Kruger National Park in 2010 where I worked for 5 years as assistant head guide.
In 2015, I moved to Tanzania after attaining my certificate in Game Lodge Management. Worked in for Asilia Africa Tarangire National Park, Northern Serengeti, Nyerere National Park, and Ruaha national park as Olivers Camp Head Guide, Walking Guide, Guide Trainer, and Camp Manager.
In 2022, I worked in Mana Pools, Zimbabwe doing game drives and canoeing in Zambezi River for Nyamatisi lodge under African Bush Camps. I joined Gorongosa Restoration Program in 2023. I am privileged to be part of one of the best restoration projects that focuses on all pillars of modern conservation that is tourism, Communities, conservation, and Science
