Gorongosa National Park (GNP) is a conservation area located in central Mozambique in Sofala province and its mission is,

“(i) To ensure the restoration and protection of biodiversity and the natural processes of the park and its buffer zone;

(ii) To contribute to development and poverty alleviation through an integrated approach to education, better access to health services, better agricultural practices and ecotourism development based on recovered biodiversity and ecological processes.

In this process of transforming GNP, the sustainable use of natural resources and environmental education become of great importance for the achievement of biodiversity conservation objectives. This conservation area has around 200,000 people residing in its buffer zone, which over time has put pressure on natural resources.

Environmental Education is seen as a means for building social values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences aimed at conserving the environment, where communities become aware and concerned with its preservation and thus contribute to the biodiversity conservation.

In order to ensure that communities in the buffer zone have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences, for better use, management of natural resources and biodiversity conservation as well as decision-making on solutions to environmental problems for their well-being, there is a need to design an environmental curriculum for schools and communities in the GNP buffer zone and to produce material for school and community use for the operationalization of the curriculum as well as the definition of a communication strategy for the Community Relations Sector.

Therefore, Gorongosa National Park intends to hire a consultant with proven experience for the elaboration of an environmental curriculum for schools and communities in rural areas and close to conservation areas, as well as the production of material for the operationalization of the curriculum and the communication strategy. with the different stakeholders of the Community Relations Sector.
