Consultant – Handicraft Development

The Department of Sustainable Development intends to hire a consultant with proven experience to support the elaboration of a detailed plan on the development of handicrafts in the districts of Cheringoma, Nhamatanda and Gorongosa, a management plan for the handicraft center in the district of Cheringoma, Inhaminga, that will explore and define key products that can generate income in the aforementioned districts, and the validation or not of the hypothesis of using banana fiber to manufacture products. Gorongosa National Park (GNP), through the Department of Sustainable Development, is developing and implementing a handicraft program, with a view to bringing an alternative source of income to the women of the Buffer Zone (Sustainable Development Zone) in particular. The handicraft program has being implemented as a pilot phase since 2021, and currently has a group of about 60 artisans divided by the districts of Gorongosa, Cheringoma and Nhamatanda in the areas of basketry, pottery, and sewing.

The construction of a Handicraft Center in the district of Cheringoma is planned, which is intended to be focal point in the region where the beneficiaries of the handicraft program can obtain training, create their products and sell them.

The Center intends to invest in the development of products in the agro-textile area, with a strong focus on banana fiber.

The Center will have a strategic plan for the development of sustainable craftsmanship that generate income for the beneficiaries, identifies potential markets, whether national or international, an action plan that includes training and training, will define the management of this centre, will what kind of equipment will be needed for the centre, and where the equipment is to be purchased.
