As part of the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the 25th of November, the launch of the campaign “16 Days of Activism for the Eradication of Violence against Women” took place.
133 people (including 21 men) gathered in Mazamba. These included members of the Women’s Development Committees of Nhamatabua, Chikwira, Nhamalicombe, Nhankwekwe, Chissadzi, Supervisors and Community Organizers of the Natural Resources Management Sub-Committees of Nhamalicombe, Nhankwekwe and Chikwira, Locality Representative from Mazamba, Nfumo from Chissadzi Village and Chikwira.
A march was held during which messages were shared about the eradication of violence against women, to the sound of songs. Informational flyers were posted in high traffic areas, such as the market, fountains, school, and trees along the paths.
A theatrical performance was carried out addressing violence against girls, specifically early marriages triggering domestic violence, with the actors, members of the committees vividly portraying this harsh reality.
As a representative from the Government, the locality Chief delivered a speech in which he appealed to the community present to remain more vigilant and to report situations of violence against women in the community.
