Journalists from several media outlets in Sofala Province visited Gorongosa National Park on October 30 to learn about the human development projects led by the Gorongosa Sustainable Development Department.
Reporters from Academic Television, Radio Mozambique, Profundus Newspaper, Diario de Moçambique, the Instituto de Comunicação Social, and Televisão Sucesso took part in the visit, pledging to expand coverage of conservation and community development stories across their platforms.
The Gorongosa Sustainable Development Department works to improve the lives of people living in communities around the Park through projects that balance conservation with social and economic development. Their initiatives focus on sustainable agriculture, health, education, and economic empowerment to foster long-term stability and resilience.
Programs are structured to create a thriving, sustainable ecosystem where people and nature prosper together. These efforts are integral to Gorongosa’s conservation model, which views community well-being as essential for protecting the Park’s natural resources.
The journalists also went on safari during their visit, exploring Gorongosa’s unique ecosystem and witnessing its diverse flora and fauna, as well as the Park’s resilience in the face of climate change.
