Recently, construction began on the Inhaminga Community Conservation Center (CCC) in Cheringoma, with a ceremonial laying of the first stone. This project, being financed by GEF6  and UNDP, aims to reinforce the conservation of globally threatened species in Mozambique through the implementation of the Conservation Areas Law, which helps improve biodiversity while expanding protected areas through community conservation areas and rural development actions. This area in particular was identified as being of particular importance, and the CCC will act as a motivator for other communities to establish bases, and complement the work of various partners. This multifunctional center will have offices for around 12 workers, a cafeteria for 50 people, and can accommodate 30 beneficiaries during training and a conference room for 70 people. The ceremony was led by District Administrator Maria Waite, and in attendance were local authorities, community members, and everyone was invited to review the constrution plans and provide input. The center should be complete by early 2024.
