Happy Birthday to Paul Dutton, pilot, conservationist, story-teller, scientist and wildlife ranger.
Paul’s early days of the 1960s are captured by stories of his flights counting wildlife in what is now known as Gorongosa National Park.
He is a founding member of the Game Rangers Association of Africa and the The Bateleurs, pilots who voluntarily fly for conservation projects and have helped restore Gorongosa Parks‘ painted wolf and leopard populations.
Celebrating Paul’s Dutton’s birthday in Gorongosa Park is a fitting tribute to a conservation legend.
Well done Paul.
As a schoolboy you were a great inspiration to me and the path I chose. Also I fondly the female crocodile chasing you up a tree at St Lucia in 1959. and later us having to hop into waist deep water and push the jetboat off the mud while a couple of big crocs looked on thinking croc thoughts – Yum Yum.
It was great working with you at Ndumu and I still enjoy the pithy e-mails. Thanks for everything you have meant to so many of us and may your campfire burn brightly for many more years to come !
Best wishes,
Jeremy
