Immerse yourself in the sonic and seasonal charms of Gorongosa National Park with “Voices of Gorongosa”, a soundscape project produced by the talented Mozambican artist Muhamago.
Through sounds captured throughout the park, Muhamago (Dercio Gomate) will transform the biodiversity of Gorongosa National Park into an unforgettable sensory experience, and invite us to listen to nature’s subtle changes between the wet and dry seasons.
As a sound artist, composer and conservation advocate, Muhamago is an aural collector and storyteller from Maputo, Mozambique, whose work preserves the connection between nature and humanity through sound. His work not only promotes conservation, but also reconnects young people to the fascinating world of Mozambique’s biodiversity.
Join Muhamago on this musical and environmental journey, and discover the charm of nature through the sounds of Gorongosa. He spent five days recording sounds in two ecosystems, transporting listeners to the vibrant landscapes of Gorongosa National Park, located at the southern tip of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, at the intersection of the biogeographic realms of East and Southern Africa. The Park’s incomparable biological diversity is home to around 8,000 species, including 99 completely new to science.
Gorongosa National Park is a haven of sonic wonders. Through immersive sound recordings captured from different perspectives, Muhamago reveals the captivating symphony of life within the Park. Each call becomes an interpreter in this great orchestration, offering insights into the purpose and importance of their vocalizations.
Park officials estimate “Voices of Gorongosa” will be finished and available for listening in early 2026. In the meantime, sound enthusiasts can learn more about and listen to Muhamago’s music on his YouTube channel.
