Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, celebrated World Ranger Day in Gorongosa National Park. The president participated in placing satellite collars on a lion couple and named the lion as “Master of Peace” and the lioness “Madam of Peace” in homage to the Agreement of Cessation of Military Hostilities signed in 2019.

“This is the way the world works to recognize the work, contribution, sacrifice and dedication of each guardian or watcher of our flora or wildlife. It’s the day we honor the Man and Woman who are friends of nature,”
-President Filipe Nyusi
“We are all celebrating, because each of us is qualified to be a ranger in our own way. The Ranger is the protector of the Earth, Wildlife and the Environment against the loss of biological diversity, extinction of species, deforestation, fires, illegal hunting and fishing, among other crimes and ecological risks.”
-President Filipe Nyusi
“The Ranger is the hero, he is a silent hero who guarantees harmony and tranquility in our conservation areas. The Ranger is our guardian of the entire natural heritage. Well done to our Rangers.”
