Alfredo Matavele was born in Malehice, Chibuto, Mozambique. He first visited Gorongosa National Park in 2007 when he participated in the Gorongosa Rangers training program.
Alfredo had only read about parks in books and he promised himself one day he would return to Gorongosa National Park, not as a visitor, but to contribute to the recovery that war and human cruelty stole from the people of Mozambique.
While working as a ranger in Banhine National Park on the ACTF-Limpopo Project, Alfredo attended the Southern African Wildlife College. His passion and commitment for land and wildlife conservation led him to join the Gorongosa team in 2011.
In 2015, Alfredo participated in a small aircraft piloting course at Airborne African Adventure Flight School. He now has a degree in environmental management which improved his academic training and contributed to the work as an environmental conservationist.
His greatest wish is to one day see Gorongosa National Park fully recovered as it was before the war and as it has been described in the books that he read as a child, He is very proud to be part of this story of recovery of this beautiful Park.
