Gorongosa youth use theater to inspire learning, equality and conservation.

In the communities surrounding Gorongosa National Park, young people are using the power of performance to spark social and educational change. Through the Park’s Youth Clubs initiative, theater has become a creative tool for dialogue—one that entertains while opening minds.

Each play tells stories rooted in daily life, delivering important messages in ways that connect with audiences across the Sustainable Development Zone districts of Dondo, Gorongosa, Cheringoma, Nhamatanda, Maríngue, and Muanza. The performances encourage reflection and positive behavior change, helping communities move away from harmful practices.

Developed in partnership with Right To Play, an organization that harnesses sport and art for social transformation, the productions bring together community, religious, traditional, and committee leaders. Through these collaborations, theater becomes more than art—it’s a platform for awareness on issues like health, education, gender equality, reproductive health, gender-based violence, climate change, and environmental conservation.
