Women artisans learn new skills to build sustainable businesses and stronger communities.
Helping women’s development committees manage natural resources more sustainably by building small businesses that benefit their communities is one of the goals of the PEACE Project (Peace Through Action and Community Empowerment). To support this mission, a hands-on training and experience-sharing initiative was created, focusing on skills such as handicrafts.
In Cheringoma district, the Social Entrepreneurship team recently led a 10-day handicrafts training for 10 women leaders representing different communities in Gorongosa National Park’s Sustainable Development Zone.
The training, held in partnership with COTURIC — the Vilankulos Tourism, Cultural and Creative Industries Cooperative — introduced participants to new production techniques and design ideas to meet both local and international market trends.
By strengthening skills in product development and business management, the workshop helped women artisans build confidence and capacity to run sustainable, profitable enterprises. It also fostered collaboration and experience-sharing, reinforcing the social and economic bonds that unite these communities under the PEACE Project.
Together, these efforts are empowering women to become agents of sustainable development — protecting natural resources while creating new opportunities for economic growth and peace.
