Gorongosa Safaris’ bold new African experience takes shape.
Gorongosa Safaris is bringing something truly special to Mozambique’s most remarkable wilderness. Opening in May 2025, Chicari Camp is a thoughtfully designed, 10-room tented camp that blends style, comfort, and sustainability. Overlooking a vibrant waterhole, it offers front-row seats to Gorongosa’s incredible wildlife.
Exciting progress is underway, and four custom-designed containers are now en route to Gorongosa, marking the start of the build. Designed and produced by specialist architects Malapa, the camp’s components have been meticulously crafted for efficient on-site assembly. Sustainability is at the heart of Chicari, with locally sourced wood from Gorongosa’s forestry concession used for novel elements like the tree hide, alongside art, crafts, and furniture made by local artisans.
We’re also thrilled to share the latest architectural renders, offering a glimpse of Chicari’s elegant design. The camp’s innovative structure ensures minimal environmental impact—at the end of each season, everything is packed away, with tent decks ingeniously transforming into storage crates and even sinks folding away seamlessly. Chicari Camp is more than just a safari destination; it’s a pioneering model of sustainable travel.
