Under the theme “Give Space to Life,” Gorongosa National Park, in partnership with local schools and communities, hosted special clean-up events on September 20th and 21st to highlight the importance of cleaning and preserving the environment.
The initiative engaged schools and communities in cleaning efforts, raising awareness of the health and environmental risks of solid waste, and encouraging positive behavior changes in waste production and management. On September 20th, local schools took the lead with students, teachers, and staff participating in cleaning activities.
The following day, September 21st, communities across Gorongosa, Cheringoma, Dondo, Muanza, Maringue, and Nhamatanda joined forces for a major cleanup effort. Youth clubs, Gorongosa’s Conservation Education Program staff, and local authorities worked together to make a difference.
These efforts show that when we come together, small actions can lead to a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
“I had this incredible experience on (World CleanUp Day) in a conservation area. It started with a simple but very interesting presentation (conference), where we learned a lot about the impact of solid waste, and how we can help make the world a better place. Afterwards we had a special moment dedicating ourselves to cleaning the environment in groups…having a lot of fun….” –Júnior Zito Chicande
