Strengthening the lives of 45,000 Mozambicans through investments in food security, child nutrition, water and sanitation, and empowering girls and young women took center stage during a recent visit by Dutch government officials.
René van Hell, director of Inclusive Green Growth at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Elsbeth Akkerman, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Mozambique, visited the communities of Vinho and Mutondo April 3-4 as examples of activities funded by the Dutch government.
The Netherlands is investing 20 million Euros over five years (2022-2027) in Gorongosa Park’s Sustainable Development Program. Right To Play and Resilience BV, through its subsidiary Resiliência Moçambique Lda, are partnering with Netherlands on several initiatives.
In addition to visiting the communities, the ambassadors had the opportunity to visit the E.O. Wilson Laboratory, the pangolin rehabilitation center and go on safari.
The Gorongosa Restoration Project combines investments in wildlife restoration, environmental protection, renewable energy, and addressing climate change, all with the goal of enhancing the lives of people living near Gorongosa Park.
Ambassador Akkerman and Director van Hell wrapped up their visit to the Park with promises to return one day and hopes for continued cooperation with the Gorongosa Restoration Project and the Mozambican government on creating a better world for future generations.
