World Environment Day is a United Nations event, encouraging worldwide awareness and action on behalf of the environment. Celebrated annually since 1973, this year’s 50th anniversary theme was ‘Fight Plastic Pollution’.
According to UN officials, World Environment Day is a reminder that people’s action on plastic pollution matters. Governments and businesses are working together to tackle plastic pollution and its consequences. Factors that still need to be addressed include prevention and non-waste generation, sustainable consumption patterns, saving natural resources and containing waste.
