The Gorongosa Restoration Project (GRP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN- Habitat) signed, in Maputo, a Memorandum of Understanding with the objective of providing a framework of cooperation within which UN-Habitat and GRP shall cooperate to provide technical support to local government and communities living around the Gorongosa National Park to be more resilient and to promote sustainable urban development and a balanced territorial growth so the conservation of the Park biodiversity is ensured.

This collaboration between the Parties will be implemented with a focus on providing technical assistance to the participatory process to elaborate Spatial Plans for the buffer zone of Gorongosa Park, design a Master Plan for Vila Gorongosa, elaborate participatory community resilience action planning at town, settlement and community level and construct resilient infrastructure and public services.

This 5 year agreement will allow both Parties to collaborate with local government and community members in the elaboration of participatory plans and to provide the necessary technical expertise to ensure that the necessary policies, procedures, design practices, quality assurance and project management principles are implemented for the construction of resilient infrastructure and public services.
