The number of preschool children living near Gorongosa National Park who are ready to begin primary school with confidence and curiosity is on the rise.
Family members, teachers and friends joined 193 children in early December as they graduated from preschools in the nearby districts of Cheringoma, Gorongosa, and Nhamatanda and expressed their joy and skills through song, dance, art, and in receiving their certificates of participation.
Funded by donors, the Park’s Comprehensive Development of Preschool Children initiative equips preschool children with foundational skills in language and literacy, natural and social sciences, mathematics, art, and creativity.
Since its inception, this program has graduated over 500 children. Plans are underway to expand its reach to other districts bordering the Park and ensure every child has an opportunity to grow with dignity and respect for themselves and their communities.
