Hello, I’m Valentina Uarracula. I’m a Technician and Community Mobilizer in the Sustainable Development Zone of Gorongosa National Park. Today I’m going to do something different by telling my own story.
I was hired to monitor the construction of schools made from mixed materials, and as part of the Resilience Project, raise awareness of the active participation of women in construction.
Along this path I have been learning a lot about making my dreams come true.
Last year in October, I got a space in the administrative post of Nhamapaza in the district of Maringué. In November I started construction of my house, made using burnt bricks and labor purchased locally. I shared what I learned by monitoring construction with people who were building my house and from them, I learned other building techniques.
I’m so happy to say that today I managed to finish building and I’m already living in my own house. I thank Oikos Cooperação e Desenvolvimento and Gorongosa National Park for implementing a project that is helping to change lives, telling people’s stories and raising awareness of the active participation of women in construction.
