Young people from Gorongosa’s Youth Club displayed their creativity and business acumen at an October 25 Entrepreneurship Fair, selling handcrafted items, local foods, and more.
Teams of young men and women came together to present unique products like hand-sewn rugs and a range of culinary offerings, from sweet treats and snacks to complete meals. Every item was proudly crafted by local young people, with all products selling to a lively crowd of around 250 buyers.
The fair, hosted by the Youth Club of Escola Secundária Cristo Rei de Gorongosa, was a direct result of the club’s emphasis on skill-building and employability. Since May, these young entrepreneurs pooled their savings to fund the event, using their resources to produce t-shirts and create small businesses. Their goal? To demonstrate entrepreneurship can be a viable career path in Gorongosa’s Sustainable Development Zone.
In total, 34 exhibitors took part, including 11 local participants outside the Youth Club. The fair showcased months of dedicated effort, from teamwork to budgeting and planning, embodying the club’s mission to foster independence and sustainability. For Gorongosa’s youth, this event highlights their commitment to their community and a sustainable future, all while celebrating the power of local enterprise.
