Their message was clear: education, empowerment, and equality shape a stronger Mozambique for all.
United in purpose and song, more than 500 women from all walks of life marched in Cheringoma on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day. The event also marked the launch of Women’s Month in Gorongosa National Park, which runs until April 7th, Mozambican Women’s Day.
Under the theme For all women and girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment, the event celebrated progress over the years. As they marched, the women sang of unity, understanding, commitment, and the power of education—knowing that when women empower themselves, they inspire the next generation.
Julieta Mafume, Cheringoma’s District Director of Education, led the ceremony, emphasizing that women and girls are the foundation of the nation. “When they are educated, understand their rights, and defend them, they transform the social, economic, and political landscape,” she said.
Representatives from Gorongosa National Park’s education, health, community relations and agriculture programs participated in the event and were joined by local women representing civil society organizations, government entities, communities and non-governmental organizations.
The event was sponsored by the countries of Canada, Norway and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
