The Gorongosa Restoration Project (GRP) in Mozambique is perhaps the greatest wildlife restoration story in Africa. In 2008, the Government of Mozambique and the Carr Foundation formed the “Gorongosa Project”, a 20-year Public-Private Partnership for the joint management of the Park and for human development in the communities surrounding the Park. On June 7, 2018, the Government of Mozambique signed an extension of the Gorongosa National Park management agreement for another 25 years. It is within the scope of this management agreement that the Gorongosa Restoration Project works with the surrounding communities to improve the conservation status of natural resources and human development through sustainable income-generating activities.

The PEACE Project funded by the Global Alliance Canada (GAC) is being implemented by GRP in close collaboration with the Government of Mozambique, the Cheringoma District Administration and the District Service for Education, Youth and Technology (SDEJT), District Service for Health, Women and Social Action (SDSMAS), District Service for Planning and Infrastructure (SDPI) and District Service for Economic Activities (SDAE).

The PEACE project aims to create sustainable human development improvements for communities in the Cheringoma District, in particular in Catemo and Nhabaua Regulados, with a strong focus on the empowerment of girls and women. This will be achieved by supporting value chains, strengthening education and health services and creating structures through which residents can actively participate in decisions around community life and development. These objectives will be pursued in the context of the PRG’s integrated approach to conservation and human development.

In this context, the Gorongosa Restoration Project intends to hire a Consultant with the general objective of training its staff in the Education sector in child protection and safeguarding on the main facets and importance of safeguarding in relation to children and young people. GRP is involved in the management of Girls’ Clubs and Young People’s Clubs, therefore this training must address the safety of highly vulnerable students and cover all aspects of child protection and safeguarding in order to prevent intentional or unintentional harm that may occur in the implementation of educational programs. GRP is particularly focused on understanding and addressing the relationship between authorities and students. The duration of the consultancy is 5 (five) days of training and will be carried out in the Province of Sofala (in one of the districts) from November 27th to December 1st, 2023.
